Whether it’s for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion, this lavish dessert is a fabulous finale to any celebratory dinner.
Ingredients :
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
- 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 6 ounces high-quality semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon brewed coffee
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Chocolate shavings (optional)
Method :
In a medium saucepan, heat half-and-half over medium heat until hot. Gradually whisk about 1/2 of the hot half-and-half into egg yolks; add yolk mixture to the remaining half-and-half, whisking continuously.
Reduce heat to low; cook until thickened and mixture coats the back of a spoon, 1 to 2 minutes, whisking continuously. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and sugar; whisk until chocolate has melted. Stir in coffee.
Divide among four demitasse cups, tea cups, or other small cups. Refrigerate 2 hours or up to 24 hours. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired. Makes 4 servings.
